This allows us to store complex, unstructured document data directly alongside standard relational tables. We can even create 'virtual columns' that index specific keys within the JSON document, giving you the flexibility of MongoDB without losing the ACID compliance of MySQL.

A deadlock occurs when two database transactions are mutually waiting for each other to release a row-level lock, causing both to freeze. Our DBAs prevent this by ensuring the application always updates tables in a consistent order, keeping transactions as short as possible, and tuning the InnoDB isolation levels (e.g., READ COMMITTED) to reduce locking overhead.
