Our DBAs utilize the Query Store and examine Execution Plans to pinpoint the exact operations causing the bottleneck. Often, adding a single covering index or refactoring a JOIN can reduce a 30-second query to 100 milliseconds.
Modern ORMs (like Entity Framework) push logic to the C# application layer, which is easier to version control. However, for extremely complex, data-heavy operations (like generating financial reports), processing the logic directly in the database via a T-SQL Stored Procedure is exponentially faster. It eliminates the need to send gigabytes of raw data over the network to the application server.
Depending on your architecture, we choose the right path. If you just need a database and don't need OS-level access, we migrate to Azure SQL Database (PaaS). If you have complex legacy dependencies, cross-database queries, and SQL Agent jobs, we perform a 'lift and shift' to Azure SQL Managed Instance, which offers nearly 100% compatibility with on-premise SQL Server.
It is Microsoft's premier High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solution for SQL Server. We cluster multiple SQL Servers together (often across different geographical data centers). The primary database synchronously replicates every transaction to the secondary servers. If the primary server crashes, the secondary instantly takes over with zero data loss.
Window Functions (like ROW_NUMBER, RANK, SUM OVER) allow developers to perform complex calculations across a specific set of rows related to the current row, without needing to group the data and lose the row-level detail. They replace complex, slow-performing self-joins and subqueries, drastically improving performance for analytical queries.
We utilize SQL Server's 'Always Encrypted' feature. This ensures that sensitive data (like SSNs or Credit Cards) is encrypted not just at rest on the disk, but also in memory. The encryption keys are held by the client application, meaning even highly privileged Database Administrators cannot read the plain-text data.
The Query Store is a 'flight data recorder' for SQL Server. It automatically captures the history of queries, execution plans, and runtime statistics. If a database suddenly becomes slow after a code deployment or a statistics update, our DBAs use the Query Store to instantly identify the regressed query and force SQL Server to use the older, faster execution plan.
If you are running an entirely on-premise environment, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) remains incredibly powerful. However, if you are migrating to the cloud or integrating with modern SaaS APIs (Salesforce, Workday), we strongly recommend building new pipelines in Azure Data Factory, which is a fully managed, scalable, cloud-native ETL service.
